Family Activities in Cape May, New Jersey
Cape May Harbor has long played an important role for the people and wildlife of the Nation’s Oldest Seashore Resort. This area–a favorite of birdwatchers and beachgoers alike–is under protection by the New Jersey Audubon Society. You can take part in their efforts or simply learn more about our city’s special habitat at the Nature Center of Cape May, which is located just a short drive from our Cape May inn.
Inside and out, the Nature Center offers many activities for visitors to experience. Many of these, including the themed gardens, aquarium and upstairs lounge, are available to visitors completely free of charge. Bring your binoculars: the center’s second and third-floor tower and observation deck are also open to the public. Children’s hands-on activities ensure they’ll have a fun time here, too. Be sure to check out the art exhibits at the Trucksess Welcome Center on your way out!
Check the calendar for other upcoming events that may be taking place during your visit, such as cruises through the harbor for whale and dolphin watching, gardening workshops, and guided tours of the harbor. The Center also presents Harbor Fest each year, featuring art, beer, seafood, live music and more–a perfect way to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of this natural resource to Cape May.
Whether you visit for birding, a walk along the harbor or an educational afternoon, outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds will find plenty to love at Cape May’s Nature Center.
